# Notched > Notched is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that hides the MacBook camera notch. It saves a copy of your wallpaper with a black strip the height of the menu bar and sets that copy as your desktop picture, so the menu bar turns black and the notch blends into it. - Website: https://notched.vercel.app/ - Download: https://notched.vercel.app/download (a signed, notarized DMG) - Source code: https://github.com/FreemanGT/notched (MIT license) - Version: 1.0.2 (build 3) - Price: free. Made by Yiftach Freeman. Not affiliated with Apple. ## Requirements - macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon. Built for MacBooks with a notch; it also works on external displays. ## What it does - Adds a black band the exact height of each screen's menu bar to a copy of the wallpaper, rendered at that screen's resolution. - Optional rounded corners under the band (small, medium or large). - Dynamic wallpapers (time of day, light and dark) keep every frame and their schedule, so they keep changing. - Works on every display and every Space, or only on the built-in display if you choose. - Watches for wallpaper changes in the background (about every two seconds) and redoes the band. - macOS can't shuffle wallpapers under the band, so Notched rotates a folder of pictures itself (every 5 minutes up to daily). A shuffle folder set in System Settings is taken over automatically. - Turning it off puts the original wallpaper back. Other Spaces get theirs back the next time you visit them while Notched is running. - Leaves Aerial, color and other live wallpapers alone. - Optional: start at login, hide the menu bar icon (open the app again to bring it back). ## Privacy - Original wallpaper files are never modified. Copies live in ~/Library/Application Support/Notched. - The only network request is a daily update check (Sparkle) against https://notched.vercel.app/downloads/appcast.xml. No analytics, no account. - The website asks for an email when you download, used only for Notched updates; it has no analytics or tracking.
